Hello lovelies,

Today I'd like to take a look at the Born Pretty Store Chameleon gel polish collection. Nail polish world offers countless finishes and colours and the gel polishes lacked in variations for a long time. But finally I'm starting to see duochrome and other special collections. One of those is Born Pretty Store Chameleon Gel Polish collection. It is a low-budget option but don't frown upon it just yet...

Born Pretty Store Chameleon Gel Polish Collection consists of 12 different colours, each has a shade number, no colour name. I've swatched each colour over black gel polish base which is ultimately the best way to draw out the duochrome effect. All colours did have a certain degree of duochrome effect to them, I just had to look from the right angle. They look best with 2 coats over black to show the real beauty.

This gel polish comes in rectangular 10ml bottles which I find very compact and easy to store. Unfortunately when they are closed tightly, the cap does not align with the bottle which id driving me crazy and I can't tighten them properly. Holding and working with the big cap was a bit of a problem but I got used to it quickly. The brush is a regular square brush, easy to work with. I did have one bottle where the brush was broken inside and hanging on a little bit so I've only used it for the swatch. At some point I'l have to decant it to be able to use it.

According to information on Born Pretty Store website, these are UV curable but there's no more information on the website nor on the bottle itself. I have tried both UV (2 mins) and LED (30 secs) lamps and both cured the gel polish fine BUT as some of you may know, gel and gel polish hardens even when it's cured at about 50%. For proper curing we should always be using a nail lamp from the same brand. BPS is not a professional nail brand and I very much doubt they did a testing with a specific nail lamp so I would recommend to wear these gel polishes over a different gel polish from a brand you have gel polish and their lamp from. This way you avoid any problems like under or over curing (which can lead to separation of the nail from nail bed, dermatitis etc.)

Most of the polishes seem to be duochrome particles in a clear base so they are not fully opaque in the first coat but they can be built up. The formula is thicker but manageable and I've attempted few nail art designs with this collection. Here's some inspiration for you :)

Pros:

  • Cost - these gel polishes are very affordable. $6.58 per bottle or $70 for the whole collection of 12 ($5.83 per bottle), extra 10% off with code LUHH10
  • Availability - Born Pretty Store ships worldwide, it takes up to a month or two but often it's faster

Cons:

  • No clear curing instructions on the website or bottles

Overall, these gel polishes are good for the price you pay and the colours are very nice as well. I was a bit concerned about the lack of information about them so please pay attention to my recommendations further up in the post. Have you tried Born Pretty Store gel polishes yet? What are your thoughts?

Hello lovelies,

Today I want to share with you a tutorial that I've created a year ago but never published it. It is from a time when I was creating nail art designs with Bio Seaweed Gel polishes and as I was playing with different marbling techniques, I've noticed that the colours kind of seep into each other. I started to play with the colours a bit more and the final result looked like Jack Frost painted frost on the nail! I loved it and I wanted to recreate this on my nails and wear it :)

I've used Bio Seaweed Gel in Twilight #142 and Snow White #101 for the nail art, Bio Seaweed Gel No Sanding Base and Diamond Shine Top and rounded flat brush from my local art supplies store (#6 Daler-Rowney System 3, SY67 Filbert brush).

So what do you think? I really like this effect. It looks simple yet interesting and I haven't seen it before so that makes it even more attractive to me! Let me know in the comments ;)
